The 2022 Western New York Undergraduate Research Symposium was held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at SUNY Buffalo State College.
The Symposium was attended by students and faculty from 12 institutions and featured talks and posters on widely ranging research topics. The event was sponsored in part by ThermoFisher Scientific and by Avantor.
Symposium attendees, hailing from at least 13 colleges and universities, heard a keynote address by Prof. Mary Kay Pflum of the Department of Chemistry at Wayne State University
2019, D’Youville College Book of Abstracts
The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its 12th Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at D’Youville College.
The Symposium was attended by students and faculty from 12 institutions and featured talks and posters on widely ranging research topics. The event attracted corporate sponsorship from MacMillan Learning and Krackeler Scientific.
The Symposium concluded with a keynote address by Dr. Pablo E. Guzmán, Research Scientist with the Army Research Laboratory.

The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its 11th annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the University at Buffalo.
The Symposium Keynote speaker was Prof. Ellen M. Matson, from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Rochester. Dr Matson spoke about her research into Redox-active Metal-oxide Clusters for Multielectron Transformations and Energy Storage.
The event attracted over 50 attendees from 10 different institutions. There were 30 student presentations, with awards given for outstanding oral and poster presentations
2017, Niagara University Book of Abstracts
The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its 10th annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 8, 2017 on the campus of Niagara University.
The Symposium featured a Keynote Address by Dr. Christine M. Mahoney, Senior Research Scientist at Corning, Inc. She addressed the chemistry of glass, surface chemistry, and the latest innovative Mass Spectral techniques for analyzing the composition and structure of surfaces.
Other talks and posters on chemistry research were enjoyed by students and faculty from a wide range of institutions in New York and Ontario. The event attracted corporate sponsorship from Pearson Higher Education, Shimadzu and Krackeler Scientific.

The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its 9th Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Canisius College.
The Symposium was attended by students and faculty from 13 institutions and featured 44 presentations on widely ranging research topics. The event attracted corporate sponsorship from Pearson Higher Education, Shimadzu, GenTech Scientific and Krackeler Scientific.
The Symposium opened with a keynote address by Prof. M. G. Finn, chair of the Georgia Tech School of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Editor-in-Chief of ACS Combinatorial Science. The title of his talk was Things that Roll Around and Do Stuff: Biological and Chemical Nanoparticles with Function.

The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its 8th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at D’Youville College in Buffalo.
D’Youville’s first ACS symposium attracted students and research mentors from 12 different colleges and universities, and featured 36 presentations on widely ranging research topics. The event attracted corporate sponsorship from Pearson Higher Education, Shimadzu Corp. and Krackeler Scientific, Inc.
The Symposium opened with a keynote address on by Prof. Huw M. L. Davies of Emory University entitled: Collaborative Approach to C-H Functionalization, in which Prof. Davies described new highly selective reactions, as well as his NSF-funded approach to bringing synthetic chemists together around collaboration, rather than competition.
2014, University at Buffalo
The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its 7th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the University at Buffalo. The event was hosted by the UB Department of Chemistry
This year’s symposium attracted students and research mentors from 16 different colleges and universities, and featured 37 presentations on widely ranging research topics. The event attracted corporate sponsorship from Pearson Higher Education, McGraw-Hill, NanoMagnetics Instruments, Shimadzu Scientific Instruments and Krackeler Scientific, Inc.
The Symposium featured a keynote address on synthesis and applications of porous metal-organic Hybrids by Dr. Krista S. Walton of the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
2013, Niagara University
The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its 6th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Niagara University. This event was co-hosted by the Niagara University Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics.
This year’s symposium attracted students and faculty mentors from 13 different colleges and universities, and featured 27 presentations on widely ranging research topics. The event corporate sponsorship from Pearson Education.
The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Emma Master of the University of Toronto.
2012, Canisius College
The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its 5th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 14, 2012 in the Montante Cultural Center on the campus of Canisius College, Buffalo, NY. This event was co-hosted by the Canisius College Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Student Chapter of ACS.
This year’s symposium attracted 38 student presenters from 14 different colleges and universities. The event had monetary support from Pearson Education and the Canisius College of Arts and Sciences.
The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Todd Krauss of the University of Rochester. Dr. Krauss presented a colorful discussion about the nanoscale world of particles and materials that is the focus of his research.
2011, University at Buffalo
The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its 2011 Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, March 16, 2011 on the North Campus of the University at Buffalo. This event was co-hosted by the Department of Chemistry and the UB chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma.
Talks and posters were contributed by 32 students from 11 different institutions in New York and Canada.
The Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Timothy Swager of the Department of Chemistry at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology. The presentation by Dr Swager described the development of sensing devices that depend on the interaction of analyte molecules with conducting and semi-conducting polymers.
2010, Niagara University
The Western New York section of the American Chemical Society held its Third Annual Western New York Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Niagara University. This event was co-hosted by the Niagara University ACS Student Affiliates Chapter and the Department of Chemistry and biochemistry at Niagara University.
